Point-fixed glass facade

Point-fixed glass facades or double-skin facades provide maximum transparency and fit well into modern architecture. Facade glass can be fixed to a steel substructure as well as to hanging or standing glass posts. By using glass posts it is possible to achieve the perfect facade transparency from every angle, as there is no need for any other bearing structure covering the view.

By using point fixing it is possible to build a double-skin facade from a single piece glass as well as a warm facade from glass units. There are special point fixings for glass units, which hold only the inner glass of the glass unit, preventing the formation of a cold bridge and providing a clean glass surface from the outside. All point fixings for a glass facade are swivel fixings that allow the glass to deflect in the case of heavy wind load to avoid excessive glass stresses.
A glass facade or glass curtain wall with point fixing requires specific knowledge from the engineer and builder as the facade is subject to wind loads and the measurements of the glass panes are always different. Depending on the wind load, the correct glass thickness must be dimensioned, which in turn determines the weight of the glass panes. The wind load and weight of the glass panes are the basis for selecting the correct fastening fittings.
R-FIX helps to create distinctive and safe point-fixed glass facades or double-skin facades by providing full service from the performance of glass strength calculations to the production of fastening fittings. In a number of projects, we have helped to refine work designs, provided suitable fixing assemblies, and produced reports on strength calculations for glass and fixings.
We generally use 1.4401 (AISI316) stainless steel to produce necessary elements such as point fixings, spider fixings and clamps for glass posts and nylon to produce glass sealings. In order to ensure the bright appearance and corrosion resistance of fixing elements it is extremely important to clean them with special cleaning foam for stainless steel after installation. When cleaning glasses and fixings, do not use highly acidic or alkaline cleaners, as they may damage the surface of stainless steel and cause corrosion.
Swivel point fittings and spider fixings are always produced according to the order, as each project requires different fixing elements.
