Glass facade of Solna beach parking house

Stockholm

The Solna Beach parking house in Stockholm, with its 11 floors and unique, round form, fits well between the office buildings surrounding it. The facade of the parking house is made up of glass panes located both horizontally and vertically under different angles. The glass panes are attached to the bearing steel frame by means of point fixings specially designed and manufactured for the project.

The design was based on the wind load, based on which we calculated a suitable glass thickness. Based on the glass thickness, we calculated the weight of the glass panes, which determined the bearing capacity requirements for point fixings. Given the specific layout of the glass, we had to produce point fixings with four different bolt lengths, whereas two upper point fixings are able to carry the weight of each glass pane. We also developed a unique torque key to apply precise tightening torque to the point fixings.

The Solna beach parking house was opened on 31 March, 2016, with a running competition, where tenants in the area had to run up and down 3 km in the parking house.
